COMMUNITY EDUCATION PROJECTS

Obesity Prevention Australia is committed to implementing self empowering hands on healthy lifestyle development projects throughout Australia. Please see the following pages to understand more about the projects we choose to implement within different demographics of the Australia community.

The hands on projects we implement must meet the below criteria:
1: They reach large groups of people at one time (we do not fund individuals)
2: They must empower participants and offer sustainability: (we do not fund ongoing services)
• OPA is committed to providing pathways that help all Australians find quality fitness activities, health professionals and healthy lifestyle advice. OPA funded projects however will always favor education and empowerment programs for large groups over services that require participants to continually utilise them (IE a weekly boxing class). We seek to ‘teach a man to fish’, not just ‘provide them with one’.

Our  2010-2015 Projects are:

1 National Health Awareness Month: (Click here)
• Our healthy lifestyle awareness event that runs annually
during the month of  October (featuring the 'Set a Goal' Challenge)

• Healthy Futures Initiative
• Healthy Lives Initiative
• Healthy Homes Initiative
• Healthy Workplaces Initiative and ‘Wear it to Work Day’ (an  event part of this Initiative)
• Healthy Ageing Initiative
• Healthy Professionals Initiative
• Healthy Policy and Media Initiative

3 Take Action DVDs:
• A series of hard hitting yet inspiring DVDs targeted specifically at each demographic within the ‘ Healthy Australia Initiatives’. We aim to distribute these DVD’s free of cost throughout hospitals, schools, and our professional networks as an educational and motivational tool for all Australians. Obesity Prevention Australia is committed to implementing self empowering hands on healthy lifestyle development projects throughout Australia.
